wild card week

30 08 2008

I chose Reference 2.0. I found it useful for getting tips on things from other people. I didn’t really look at it from a library stand point as I was using it though! I think having sites like this could help Librarians get ideas from each other. Ideas from storytimes, to programs, to read-alike lists etc.

I can’t say I had a lot of fun doing 10 things in 10 weeks, but I CAN say that I have learned a lot and that I will be exploring more on my own!

ps looking forward to getting that mug :-)

podcasting

23 08 2008

Contra Costa County Library does offer storytime podcasts. When my computer was working, my kids would listen to the podcasts.

Vodcasting could be used to tour different branches, or to show a certain program. Youtube is a fun way to reach out to teens.

social networks

22 08 2008

I use myspace to keep in touch with old friends. This exercise was confusing going from #1 to #2 because after creating an account the ‘search popular networks’ box is NOT at the top right hand of the page! So I gave up on this one for the week. I came back to it though ( I really want that mug!) and when I logged in this time, the ‘search popular networks’ box IS at the top of the page.

I like the social networking for within our library system (branch to branch) but also for other library systems to share with us (and vice versa). Good tool for getting/sharing information with a large group withing the libary community.

rss

Insect songs for children. Sandi and Stevie use humor and fun to teach children how to live in harmony with insects. Saturday August 16th, 2008 – 02:00 PM @ Pittsburg Library.

This is the first time I have used RSS, now I know how those patrons keep getting their names on the hold lists for new movies before I do!

It was Really Simple just as it advertised! I did have a problem with the display, I wanted it to just display not ask me how much I wanted displayed, so I thought I did something wrong! All is well now though in the world of RSS!

MeeboMe Widget

5 08 2008

This was confusing! Thank goodness for Becky (again!)

I suppose having MeeboMe Widget on the library home page would provide another way for patrons to ask reference questions. It is a media that younger patrons would feel comfortable using. It could also be a quick way to do shelf checks between branches rather than tying up phone lines.

google docs

26 07 2008

I have worked with Google Docs before (thanks Becky, all your computer task projects helped out!) It took me a while to figure out if I wanted to edit a cell I had already finished with, I could double click rather than typing it all again. Other than that, piece of cake! I might actually not scream and hide under my desk the next time someone mentions spreadsheets. Maybe

I chose Wild Magic by Tamora Pierce.

I am not sure if this is how to post a link to my staff review, wouldn’t this link just take you to all the reviews? Confusing.

Never speed, especially if you are late for work!

27 06 2008

Yep, I learned the hard way! Rushing to work yesterday (bad morning), I got into an accident. So just remember, your manager would rather have you 15 minutes late, than in the ER! (VERY bad morning). 15 minutes vs. 8 hours you do the math! Have a nice day and keep it at 65!
